Fruit Roll Ups

Fruit roll ups were a prized treat in our cul-de-sac when my children were young.  Sweet, chewy, and slightly sticky, they have always been a popular snack choice with children.

Very quickly, we discovered that commercially produced fruit roll ups made our young daughter very sick and were stunned to find out that she was allergic to food dye. I didn’t know that was even a possibility.

That discovery began our journey with food sensitivities and allergies, our education on safe alternatives and eating organically. I was equally surprised to discover the amount of artificial dye and ingredients filled food that is marketed for and towards children.

These all natural, organic roll ups are so easy to make with just a couple of simple ingredients, that everyone can make them. This recipe is a wonderful opportunity to get your children involved in the kitchen. Depending on their age and skills, they can help with different steps like cooking the fruit, spreading it out on the baking sheet, or by rolling up the completed strips.

Try different fruit combinations, the possibilities are endless. Our favorites are mango/guava and blueberry/cherry. And you can never go wrong with strawberry.
